News from the Nest & Field
February 25, 2025 – Congratulation to Skye and Soren on egg number 1. This is so exciting as Skye will be a new Mom. We’ll watch together as her instincts kick in. For anyone new to watching eagles, they will take turns incubating, although the female will be on the egg more than the male. They both develop a brood patch, an area of bare skin, shortly before eggs are laid to help keep the egg(s) warm, especially in these winter/spring days. They will also roll the egg about once each hour or more. The male will bring gifts of food to the female while she is on the egg to keep her nourished, but you will see them take turns incubating so the female has a chance to leave the nest.
Watch Live or on YouTube as they settle their bodies over the eggs to make contact to keep them warm.
